For those who know me well know that I am (coincidentally) very opinionated on the subject of opinions.
Thing is I keep hearing the same foolish lines over and over.

"It's my opinion and you can't tell me I'm wrong!"
"We're all entitled to our own opinion!"
"My opinion is the correct one and yours is WRONG. (without substantial logic or reasoning for support)"

Thing is I'm not convinced anyone even KNOWS what an opinion is anymore.
Lets look at some of these words:
Truth
Reality
Perception
Opinion

Truth is what is real. You can argue all day on what is real and what is not but the fact is very LITTLE is truth. Most of what we deem as true is only true in certain cultures and situations. "Men are much more decisive and capable leaders." Well that might have been true in OUR society at some point but of course that's not as true today as it was yesterday. MANY societies were matriarchal long before the US was around even, so that's not really TRUTH is it?

Reality is your personal belief of what is truth. To some people the truth is black people are evil. I'd probably say for most of us that ISN'T truth... however to that one person that is their reality and therefor their misguided "truth" of the world.

Perception is the stain glassed window that tints our reality. The most basic example is the water half full half empty analogy. I look at the glass I say it's just half-way. My perception (or in other words the years and years of experience and wisdom guiding my decisions) tells me that it's just half way.

And last opinion is the pliable non-absolute theory we have on certain subjects.
This is where people get confused.
I have an OPINION that say... Abortions are wrong on a moral level but need to remain legal for the safety of women.
Since it is my opinion I can certainly argue my reasons behind it... but if someone WERE to present much more logical argumentation or better proof against my opinion there is a good chance I will change it. Reason why is that it is an OPINION... it isn't truth or reality.
Simpler less complicated opinion I have is cats make better pets than dogs.
This one really does just come down to a preference though doesn't it?
In that case this is a PREFERENCE opinion and can't particularly be argued.
Now if I were to say... cats make better pets than dogs for starting families. THAT can be argued... but again it is an opinion and could possibly be changed if the right evidence was presented.

So see.. we need to bring back the opinion.
We need to teach our children PROPER argumentation and everyone needs to stop treating their "opinion" as truth.
Some people will and always will remain delusional and closed-minded though... and of course I know that.
But I can hope for a more accepting future right?
